“It has been keenly remarked that, Fine Art photography is the expression of the imagination, not the documentation of fact. The ability to tell a story through imagery has always been, for me, a challenge worthy of anyone’s effort. To succeed in conveying the essential meaning and emotion of that story one must possess a wisdom of experience, much as any successful writer or painter.

The struggle to see, understand and to express the essence of that scene is what constitutes meaningful photography for me.”

On December 7, 1941, America entered WWII and Mr. Herzog was born. Fifteen years later, he was given a Leica IIIc and later an Argus C3 and taught darkroom processes by a neighborhood professor of engineering. Those were certainly prophetic beginnings. It was not long before Mr. Herzog set aside his cameras to pursue an education and a corporate career which led up to president and founder of several advanced technology companies. He was involved in critical work for all three of NASA’s Manned Space Programs and the development of many of the twentieth century’s top defense aircraft. He has also been a frequent mentor and consultant to many high technology start-up business.

At some point his early Argus C3 was traded in for a succession of Nikons which continued a forty year fascination with b&w photography and printing processes. Today, he actively pursues aviation, natural world and event photography as both an art form and as a picture story worth telling.

“Several of the images shown here from time to time are beginning to make their way into private collections. Anyone should be gracious for that but it is not enough. I especially hope to touch the imagination of my visitors and through the experience, make their visit and our meeting something worthwhile.”

Robert Herzog
